 Included in this volume are the most venerated selections from the Four Books and the Five Classics — the staple of the Confucian canon, presented for the first time in a web chat format that more closely resembles the conversational nature of Confucian discourses such as the Analects and the Works of Mencius. Historical references are transformed into their modern-day equivalents so that the core of Confucius’s message comes through without the need for footnotes or explanations.  Chris Wen-Chao Li is a translator and theoretical linguist. He received his doctorate in General Linguistics and Comparative Philology from Oxford University, and is currently Professor of Chinese Linguistics at San Francisco State University. His translations and scholarship have appeared in Renditions, The Chinese Pen, Target, Language and Communication, and the Journal of the American Oriental Society.
