In standard histories of the Second World War, the last six months in the western European arena invariably make a short epilogue. After the German failure in the Battle of the Bulge, Hitler's bold counter attack across the Ardennes, the war is often assumed to have been all over bar sporadic shooting. Barry Turner has been a full-time writer for twenty years but started writing long before that, first as a teacher and then as a journalist. He has been a regular presenter on radio and television , mostly for the arts and education. He is the author of twenty books, and editor of the annual Statesman's Yearbook and Writer's Handbook.
