About this ebook

Demon boss. Bloodsucking coworkers. Supernatural insurance is scary business...

As the first human in 3,200 years to work in the Special Investigations Unit of Crimson Seal Insurance, Tim Lovecraft knows his days of processing run-of-the-mill claims for werewolf maulings and poltergeist home invasions are over.

SIU is where they investigate the toughest and scariest claims, like supernatural identity theft (aka demonic possession), exsanguinations (total and partial), zombification, and death or injury by cursed artefacts of all kinds.

Despite the new job, Timā€™s life is not easy. His new boss is a literal demon with no regard for the companyā€™s scent-free workplace policy. His brother is a lazy, unemployed vampire who wonā€™t move his coffin out of Timā€™s apartment. His coworkers are a motley collection of werewolves and ghouls. And his mother wonā€™t stop trying to set him up with psychics from her chain of spiritualist day spas.

Tim badly wants to make a good impression by solving his first case. When he gets caught between a powerful cult trying to resurrect an ancient entity and a demon mob boss who wants him dead, Tim knows he is seriously increasing his odds of statistically expected mortality.

Demonic Indemnity is another hilariously horrific tale from Craig McLay, author of award-winning international bestsellers Village Books, The Donnelly Tontine and other books you should read immediately.

I give it 3.5 stars. It would've been 4 (shoot, maybe even 5) if not for the simple grammar mistakes and two issues that pulled me from the story. I liked this story, and I've already downloaded the 2nd, but I'm hoping that McLay found someone to edit it. *SPOILER ALERT* The two issues I found are in chapters 22 and 25. In chapter 22, McLay forgets who's driving with Tim as he switches between Tabitha and Amanda. This is the only instance that Amanda is mentioned. Chapter 25...although Stake didn't react to Carmilla's succubus charm when he first met her (he and Tim rescued her from the Sons of Darkness), he suddenly starts reacting to her now. That's not too bad (maybe the adrenaline was enough to keep him from losing control when they first met), but Carmilla didn't remember him, and Tim acted like Stake didn't help rescue her. It was weird and threw me off. Carmilla was under mind control at the time, but what is Tim's excuse?

Great story. Author needs to work on repetitive wording though. Majority of the time when someone speaks author uses "said" for example. It really is monotonous and kills an otherwise good story

I'll keep it simple and say what I loved about this book: 1) the Glossary of Insurance Terms; 2) the plot; 3) the world building; 4) the architectural details 5) Tim's gadgets 6) the supernatural phone apps; 7) every single character; 8) the fight against the djinn; 9) all the funny bits
