This is the third story in the "Men of Mettle" and a previously published story that was called "Captured by the Cyborg". This is a fast paced story that draws you in and keeps you glued until the very end. I love the characters and the plot is very intriguing. Dale, was a Cyber Ops agent but has sense left. He now runs a very private factory that retrofits shops. Because of his clients everything is confidential with heightened security. He has grown a little restless and thinks he misses the excitement of his old job. That is until Illumina shows up looking for a job. She is full of secrets, deception and lies. She has a good reason because she is running from her ex that tried to kill her. Such a good story!

I have r e ad this author before and enjoyed those books but this one did not hit the mark for me. Sometimes I am a mood reader and maybe that's hit. Lots of great plot though. Quick on steam and tension. It's not bad. Pretty sure it's a me problem. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Dale protects those who have found a safe haven working for him... Dale understands that life doesn’t give everyone a fair shake, it doesn’t make everyone’s dreams come true. His business skates the edge of legal, and out of necessity operates not just in the shadows, but in a well-concealed and protected location. Most of the people working for him are simply looking for somewhere to be accepted and given a chance, but the moment Illumina appears applying for a job, he knows she’s running from something, and his gut says not only should he help her, despite her lies, but there’s no safer place for her to be than his hidden shop. Two people who have been beaten up by life, and betrayed by someone they thought they could trust struggle to not just trust one another, but create a safe life together. It doesn’t hurt that Dale has friends who will do anything for a brother.
