About this eBook

Dive into this steamy sci-fi alien romance full of hot Highlanders in kilts.

An alien scientist desperate for answers

Cyle is the only Albyan alive who knows who was responsible for their females succumbing to the Sleep: his father. Ever since he discovered the truth, he's been trying to find a way to wake the females.

He vowed to himself that he'd never accept a mate until he succeeded. But that's easier said than done when he meets the female of his dreams and his mating instincts kick in.

The only way to stop himself from getting distracted is to push her away – but she has no intentions of leaving.

A human woman strong enough to match him

Before her accident, Beth had everything she'd ever wanted: a doting husband, the house of her dreams, a promising career. Now she's a widow scarred inside and out, jobless and on the verge of being kicked out of her home.

She only registered at a dating agency because her therapist thought it was a good idea. She didn't expect to be matched to a kilt-wearing Highlander – especially not an alien. He embodies the chance of a new life, but he doesn't seem to be interested in her.

It's time to cheat fate and take her life into her own hands. He will become her mate – even if she has to resort to unusual measures.

If you want handsome alien Highlanders in kilts, strong women who don't like being told what to do, fated mates and happily-ever-afters, dive into the world of the Starlight Highlanders.

The writing and editing of the ARC version of the manuscript was clean, with no typos that I found and a sparkling, charming authorial voice. The world building was deft, and I especially liked the thoughtful, cute illustrations. The characterization was good, with both hero and heroine being sympathetic individuals with some nuance. The development of the romantic relationship was cute and sweet once the protagonists met. The heat level in this novel was four chili peppers, with some fun non-human anatomy being incorporated. The plot was quick and punchy, so the pacing was therefore quick. There was a little tiresome angst that did not feel well justified, but it thankfully did not drag on too long. The stakes were pretty high, which I enjoyed. This novel used the Fated Mates trope, the Partner in Trouble trope, and the Big Secret trope. The world building, plot, and pacing were all four stars. The characterization and development of the romantic relationship were also four stars. I therefore gave this novel a combined rating of four stars. This novel ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a major plus. I recommend this novel to readers who enjoy sparkling, funny, charming sci-fi romances. I would love to read more romances by the author set in this universe. I do not plan to buy myself a keeper copy of this novel. I received a free copy of this book, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Unique take on the alien mail order bride theme - unlike many where the aliens are similar to humans with different colored skin, Skye MacKinnon's aliens have antennae and petals! Beth was initially matched by Cyle to another - much to both their surprise they discover they are mates! Cyle is an entertaining, light-hearted read.

When she meets her mate, she’s not sure what she expected….but it certainly wasn’t this!!! Cyle can see that the answer to waking the females of his species is right within his grasp, but ever illusive! How can the genetic matching be right if it matched Beth with this rude, and even offensive man?? Maybe they don’t really know everything, and the matching really is a mistake? Finding the answers together, Beth & Cyle will find everything they’re looking for, including Cyle’s redemption.

About the author

Skye MacKinnon is a USA Today & International Bestselling Author whose books are filled with strong heroines who don't have to choose. She embraces her Scottishness with fantastical Scottish settings and a dash of mythology, no matter if she's writing about Celtic gods, alien Highlanders, or the streets of Edinburgh. When she's not typing away at her favourite cafe, Skye loves dried mango, as much exotic tea as she can squeeze into her cupboards, and being covered in pet hair by her demon cat.
