I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it. While this is a part of a series and some prior characters play a part of this one, you don't have to read them to fully understand this story. I adored this story. There were some really wonderful scenes (especially those with Medusa a/k/a Melissa - you will have to read the book to understand.) Alasdair, is a Scottish warrior who comes to London to get land that was stolen from his clan and given to their neighbors returned back to them now that the clan is in good standing. He second mission is keep an eye on his younger sister, Fiona, and his brother's sister-in-law, Lorelei. The second task is proving a little more difficult. The girls could really care less about the Season and finding a husband and more about an adventure. While this is a romance, there is adventure and intrigue as well. The book is well written with a brawny Scot (who doesn't love a Scot especially if they show up at a ball in Highland regalia! Swoon!) The book is written in my favorite dual POV format. Actually there are other characters that have their POV as well. This increases the intrigue and mystery. If you adore historical romance with a touch of intrigue with interesting characters of strong will, you will love this one.

For the next few months, she and her best friend, her sister in law Fiona, can indulge in balls, flirting, and enjoying the delights of London society without any family interference; this season is for adventure, not marriage. But their adventures are short-lived with the arrival of Fiona’s brawny, dark-haired Highlander brother, Alasdair MacGregor, who insists on being their chaperone. Officially, Alisdair is in London to re-acquire land that rightfully belongs to his family. While there he might as well as keep an eye out for his sister and the woman he has feelings for. Unofficially, he’s there to figure out how best to win Lorelei’s hand in marriage. But London proves to be full of complication, especially when she begins matchmaking him with someone else. Except Lorelei’s plans do not go as she had planned and finds herself wanting Alasdair’s attentions for herself. Her longing for freedom could come at a high price, unless Alasdair can save her reputation; without destroying her independent heart. This is a slow burn romance in which Alasdair and Lorelei both want each other, having fallen for each other while in Scotland; forgetting to communicate or share their feelings. Misunderstandings, manipulations, clan loyalty all play their part. I enjoyed both Alasdair & Lorelei but while they might be perfect for each other their romance was very much on the back burner for most of the book. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
