Jan Brett and her husband, Joe, traveled with their daughter-in-law, Yun, and her husband, Sean, to China, the land where Yun was born. During this trip, Jan found the inspiration for Daisy's story.

It's a lovely, simplistic, and heartwarming children's story about a red hen named Daisy who gains the courage to stand-up for herself after she finds herself taking a trip down the river and becomes a merchant's fresh produce for sale. Luckily, her owner finds her and they are reunited and Daisy finally stands up for herself while coming to peace with herself. It's a simple and nice read and the illustrations are gorgeous and lovingly crafted.
