About this eBook

A young widow travels to South Dakota to start a new life—and discover new love—in this Americana romance from the New York Times–bestselling author.

Discover romance across America with Janet Dailey’s classic series featuring a love story set in each of the fifty states.

Edie was barely eighteen when she married Joe Gibbs, becoming a stepmother to his five-year-old son and mother to their new daughter. Their life was frugal but happy—until Joe left Edie a widow. Now grief-stricken and anxious about their future, Edie is surprised to learn that Joe had made a secret plan to keep them secure and allow the young widow to pursue a lifelong dream of owning a ranch in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

Excited and optimistic, the Gibbs family heads West—only to find that Will Maddock, their wealthy new neighbor, is determined to add Edie’s acreage to his own sizable spread. It doesn’t help that the man is as handsome as he is arrogant. When their every encounter becomes a battle, how long can Edie keep Will from getting exactly what he wants?

About the author

Janet Dailey, who passed away in 2013, was born Janet Haradon in 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa. She attended secretarial school in Omaha, Nebraska, before meeting her husband, Bill. The two worked together in construction and land development until they “retired” to travel throughout the United States, inspiring Dailey to write the Americana series of romances, setting a novel in every state of the Union. In 1974, Dailey was the first American author to write for Harlequin. Her first novel was No Quarter Asked. She went on to write approximately ninety novels, twenty-one of which appeared on the New York Times bestseller list. She won many awards and accolades for her work, appearing widely on radio and television. Today, there are over three hundred million Janet Dailey books in print in nineteen different languages, making her one of the most popular novelists in the world.
