About this ebook

This little book is the result of much experience in seeking to adapt the story of Robinson Crusoe to the literary attainments and educational needs of children in the primary schools... Those events in DeFoe's story that are of doubtful educational value are omitted; but it is believed that the child's interest in the narrative is not impaired thereby. The language is that of children, and Robinson seems to be telling his story to them.

Based on how this story is presented today in popular culture, I expected a some what adventurous story aimed at a young audience with lessons for being a self-sufficient individual. While it is a good adventure story, its old style of writing and word usage may put it out of the reach of many younger readers. Interestingly, it is also much more than just an adventure/travel story, and is less about giving a kiddie-lit like pep talk in favor of a more serious examination of fate and how to face ones existence. The story is more contemplation than adventure, but remains interesting through the internal debate Robinson Crusoe has in determining how to interpret his fate and his own role in it. This story has caused me to consider how I approach my life and face the circumstances and challenges presented to me. For a 300 year old story to accomplish that much is a testament to its quality and reason enough to push through some passages that can be tedious. Overall the story is entertaining and insightful, not much more can be asked from a book.

This is a book that was assigned to my son to read while in the fourth grade. We watched the movie and the books are better reading than the movie. Reading the books gave us a look into how people viewed their fellow men and how they loved adventure while working on farms or other lives they might of found boring. We got ot learn a lot because I could teach him to learn from others about the importance of listening to ones parents and the importance of learning all you can while you can. This is a good book to learn about morals and about taking care of ones self and about ones environment. I would recommend this book to anyone expecially the full edition with all its wide use of vocabullary both past and present that can be learned.

A really great, easy read! Lots of interesting detail and information, pretty exciting as well. Its written in an older form of English so it's a tad hard to read at times but you can get through those parts pretty easy. 5+ stars, a must read!
