I enjoyed this book immensely. My reason for only four stars is simply because in the second book the author wastes time repeating too many chapters from the first book. However this was no insipid tame romance novel but a story so intense it gripped from the first chapter till the last. A story of a dangerously ruthless man disarmed by a tiny spitfire of a woman. A story of how love which is such a foreign word and concept to Yan brings him the greatest joy. This book must be read!!

I've caught glimpses of Yan throughout other interwoven stories, and I was so excited when I got to read his story! I think Mink is his perfect other half. Of course, in true Anna Zaires fashion, this story captured me from the first pages and I didn't even realize I read it in one sitting. This makes me want to go back to the very first story between all of their lives and revisit them!

All I can say is WOW, this book just blew me away. Now I have the biggest book hangover and I feel like I need more to make me feel sane again. Anna Zaires and Charmaine Pauls have a wonderful writing collaboration and they created a book that has it all. This book is romantic, dark and immensely satisfying. It took me on a roller coaster of emotions with all the highs and lows and twists and turns. I found the storyline so realistic and gratifying and I loved her characters Yan and Mina. They were two damaged people who made each other whole. It felt like they belonged together and found their soulmate. I love this quote by Yan “Ours is not a sweet romance. It’s larger than love. Darker than love. And it’s hers. All hers.” It exemplifies the whole book to me. I highly recommend this book to everyone. I hope Anna and Charmaine write another book soon. I will forever be their devoted reader.

About the author

Anna Zaires is a New York Times, USA Today, and international bestselling author of sci-fi romance and contemporary dark romance. She fell in love with books at the age of five, when her grandmother taught her to read. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination. Currently residing in Florida, Anna is happily married to Dima Zales (a science fiction and fantasy author) and closely collaborates with him on all their works.

Charmaine Pauls was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa. She obtained a degree in Communication at the University of Potchestroom, and followed a diverse career path in journalism, public relations, advertising, communications, photography, graphic design, and brand marketing. Her writing has always been an integral part of her professions.

After relocating to Chile with her French husband, she fulfilled her passion to write creatively full-time. Charmaine has published novels as well as short stories and articles since 2011. Two of her short stories were selected for publication in an African anthology from across the continent by the International Society of Literary Fellows in conjunction with the International Research Council on African Literature and Culture.

When she is not writing, she likes to travel, read, and rescue cats. Charmaine currently lives in Montpellier with her husband and children. Their household is a linguistic mélange of Afrikaans, English, French and Spanish.
