Pro tip: Never volunteer for anything. That's the first thing they told me in flight school.

It's 2037. I'm Mike Williams, but you can call me 'Magnet', and I'm a fighter pilot on the TFR Sydney. Our flight leader, Iron, has a mission: Volunteer only. It's the usual gig. High risk, lots of unknowns, an opportunity to make history or die trying. Hopefully the former, but sometimes it's a little of column A, a little of column B, you know?

The mission's going to a place no Human's been, hoping to earn ourselves some desperately needed allies. Pretty simple on paper. Fly out to a rendezvous at a distant world, pick up an alien and take him to his blushing bride.

Although, come to think of it, I don't know if psychotic waist-high reptilians can blush.

Skin City has been liberated, offering a flicker of hope to all who live in the wasteland that times are changing.  But it has been a Pyrrhic victory, one coming at great cost to the few remaining that seek to carry on the fight.  War looms on the horizon as the survivors now seek to take the fight against the overwhelming might of Thorne Industries.

Rin Takahashi finds herself thrust into the spotlight at the forefront of the struggle, one which she never wanted, yet feels honor-bound to carry on in memory of a fallen friend.  Meanwhile, Marcus strives to save the woman he loves from the soulless corporation that threatens to consume them both.  And James Mason nears the end of a long road, attempting to make things right after a lifetime where so much went wrong.  These three find themselves in a desperate battle as they seek to topple Thorne Industries in a war that will shake the foundations of the continent.

Extensis Vitae: Empire of Dust is the thrilling conclusion of the gritty, action-packed Extensis Vitae series.

My name is Mike "Magnet" Williams. I'm a lot of things: fighter pilot. Ugly bastard. Lord of all I survey.

I fly the F-88 Wasp, although recently I've been doing a stint as a gunner in the Broadsword gunship Piggyback. I was back on Earth on an important mission after a long time in space.

Real important.

But now Fleet Command have another special mission for me. Apparently I'm a glutton for punishment. See, there's a Toralii freighter, somewhere deep in space, and it's vulnerable. Someone got the bright idea to steal it. Guess all their best people were unavailable, since they picked me and the crew of the Piggyback.

Since, you know, we did so well at the last mission.

We're going way out of my comfort zone for this one. I'm happiest when I'm in a cockpit, but this is something else. Something important.

If we succeed, we're doing to be doing something special, living out on the edge, hitting the Toralii where it hurts. We're taking the fight to them, and we're taking something they use to fight.

If we fail, nobody will ever find our bodies.

With new alliances forged and old regimes fractured, Merlin—the cybernetic avatar of Earth's last survivor and immortal beacon to humanity—and the colonies of Safehold have many adventures ahead in Through Fiery Trials, the continuation of David Weber's New York Times bestselling military science fiction series

Those on the side of progressing humanity through advanced technology have finally triumphed over their oppressors. The unholy war between the small but mighty island realm of Charis and the radical, luddite Church of God's Awaiting has come to an end.

However, even though a provisional veil of peace has fallen over human colonies, the quiet will not last. For Safefold is a broken world, and as international alliances shift and Charis charges on with its precarious mission of global industrialization, the shifting plates of the new world order are bound to clash.

Yet, an uncertain future isn't the only danger Safehold faces. Long-thought buried secrets and prophetic promises come to light, proving time is a merciless warden who never forgets.

“Vast, complex, intricate, subtle, and unlaydownable....The biggest thing in science fiction since Isaac Asimov's Foundation series.”—Dave Duncan on the Safehold series
