About this eBook

Kate Adrleigh is everything the Victorian English gentlewoman is not--outspoken, free-thinking, American...and a writer of the frowned upon "penny-dreadfuls."

Soon after her arrival in Essex, England, a body is unearthed in a nearby archeological dig--and Kate has the chance to not only research her latest story...but to begin her first case with amateur detective Sir Charles Sheridan.

The feminist in me wants to say that this was a good book. However, the writing leaves a lot to be desired - it felt heavy-handed and full of clichés. Too many times I found myself rolling my eyes as I encountered the various writing ticks one wouldn't expect to find in the works of such a heavily-published author. I'm sorry, but literally writing down a paragraph of questions that a character has and putting them in the story is a cheap, inneffective way of making a reader curious. I wasn't expecting the cream of the crop, and yes, this story does have two writers (awful idea), but come on. This was straight up unedited.
