Thomas Mann was born in Germany in 1875. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1929, and left Germany for good in 1933. Among his major novels are Buddenbrooks, The Magic Mountain, and Doctor Faustus. Thomas Mann died in 1955.
