I only became familiar with Emily Dickinson a few years ago. I had read epic poetry by Homer and Virgil, as well as other poets like Samuel Taylor Coleridge. I have never read anything quite like this. The style is very unconventional and may at times be considered almost quirky, as may the subject matter. Dealing with life, death, resurrection but also nature, love and family, there is something for everyone here. A misunderstood and very talented writer.
