About this ebook

When a young woman is at the wrong place at the wrong time, she becomes a person of interest in a murder investigation.

Maddie Baker just wants to make ends meet. She gave up her school librarian career to return to her hometown and take care of her elderly aunt. So when she starts making Uber runs to supplement her barista job, she never dreamt she’d not only drop a man off to his murder but be labeled a person of interest in his death.

Detective Noah Langley is looking for a fresh start in a city with a lower crime rate and a fraction of the population of Memphis. It’s just want he needs to recover from a nightmare that left him severely injured and his teenage mentee dead. The first murder since he’s arrived in Cockamamie is a chance to prove to his boss and himself he should be there.

Noah doesn’t have many leads, but the few he has all tie back to one person: Maddie Baker. She doesn’t seem the type, but the last time he presumed someone was innocent he nearly died. Has Noah lost his instincts? Because if he can’t trust his gut, it might be time to turn in his badge.

Excellent! A great start to a new series. I've enjoyed all of her books I've read previously and this one was no different. Well developed complex characters, great plot and a bit of unfinished business to read about in the next book. The main mystery resolved in this book, but more questions remain. I highly recommend this book.

This is the first book in the Maddie Baker Mystery series by one of my favorite authors, Denise Grover Swank. I love her writing style and the characters she comes up with a very solid and three dimensional. She's done it again with this one. I was only able to guess parts of what happened. Usually, I'm pretty good at figuring out the murderer and stuff but not this time. Ms Swank got me good with this one. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen, she'd switch it up. Twist and turns don't even begin to describe it. I like that the male and female leads were at odds over each other in the beginning and weren't cliche like in a lot of other books. They are in their mid-thirties so they aren't immature kids anymore and both have baggage, like real people. It was refreshing. I already bought the second book. Can't wait for more.

What a wonderful start to the new Maddie Baker Mystery Series and what a wonderful name for the small town of Cockamamie, Tennessee ( that’s a town I won’t forget in a hurry). This is Detective Noah Langley and Maddie Baker’s entertaining, fun story. Maddie finds herself in a pickle, a suspect in a murder case and Noah is the Detective heading the investigation. What follows is plenty of sizzling chemistry and witty banter as well as not one but two murders being investigated and that means this captivating tale will certainly keep you on the edge of your seat Will the murders be solved and more importantly will lines be crossed…… Wonderful characters and a story that’s full of witty banter and sizzling chemistry. A great start to a new series from the very talented Ms Grover Swank.
