This book is addressed to students and teachers in design degrees and researchers interested in logical thinking of design. Just like any other discipline, design must accredit its rational fundamentals to refer the conditions of knowledge that determine it as a specific object of study. Methodology is a bridge between the general principles of doing and knowing. The analysis of the design theoretic fundamentals involves an approach to its models as well as the conceptual assumptions. Likewise, it establishes the indissoluble relationship between theory, method and technique, that thinking and doing present in their necessary unit.

Luz del Carmen Vilchis Esquivel, PhD. Mexican woman. Professor since 1979 in the Arts and Design Faculty of National Autonomous University of Mexico and other universities. National researcher in National Council of Science and Technology. Doctoral studies in graphic design, philosophy, fine arts, and education. Author of twenty books, has wrote more than one hundred international papers and eighteen didactic notebooks. Member of Design Research Society, Fundació Historia del Diseny, Design History Society, International Scientific Committee at Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, Franklin Furnace Archive, and MERLOT. Associate editor of several magazines, refereeing 136 international papers. Pioneer in Mexico in the use of digital resources for arts and design. Lecturer, tutor, and researcher, has given ninety-one courses and 155 conferences in thirty-eight countries. Director of more than two hundred postgraduate theses. Professional graphic designer for almost one hundred important firms with awards in Mexico and Switzerland. First woman as director of the Arts and Design Faculty of UNAM in 250 years (2002–2006). She received the Lifetime Achievement Recognition Academic Design from the University of Palermo, Argentina, 2013. Recognition as Lifetime Member VIP from Worldwide Who’s Who / Worldwide Branding.
