About this ebook

Now that the Hangman’s list of potentials is dwindling to two names, Detective Jake Thomas realizes that his partner, Detective Jo Callaway is facing a conflict of interest that should take her off the case.

With her father and brother on the chopping block, time is running out for both of them, and Jake knows he’ll have no choice but to help the two men he despises most.

While she fights to stay aboard, Jo will make decisions that shake her faith and test her integrity, but will it help or hinder the Hangman’s mission?

With the duo still searching for the Hangman, Jake will make a move to the Rockford to find Missy, but will his plan work, or will the Hangman find him first?

Frightening.........Are the American police really that incompetent? The writing is awful, almost childish. These books are so drawn out one assumes it's pulp fiction to make money. Turgid, shallow, two dimensional rubbish. I waded through four books, hoping it would get better (drawn in by the fact that volume one was free) then gave up. Mindless, inane claptrap. Poorly researched, poorly written. I'm going to stick a pencil in my eye as punishment for throwing good money after bad. Would rate it zero stars but have to give a minimum of one. One redeeming feature.......good for insomniacs. I assume the other reviews are written by simpletons or the author or maybe they read something different

There are no shocks here for anyone who has read the first three volumes, but the story is at least going somewhere. The writing remains, let's be generous and say uneven, and if a proofreader was paid to look this over, they've gotten away with the crime of the century. The complaints about the pricing scheme are valid, and if this was sold as a single novel, which it very blatantly is, or even as a duology, it would be a little easier to swallow. None of the volumes work as a standalone book, and they don't even bother to end on a proper cliffhanger, other than the story not being complete. That said, I bought this after catching the first three volumes for free, so obviously it works at least to some degree. It probably says all that needs to be said that upon finishing this volume, I wished I hadn't started at all rather than anticipating the next volume.

As the fourth book in this series, this one served to setup a twist in the Hangman murders that could throw off the detectives and spin the case in another direction. Speaking of the detectives, their relationship or quasi-relationship comes to a crossroads. However, there is no rush to a resolution as they continue to dance around their intense chemistry. Even so, they both come to some realizations regarding their feelings toward one another. Even more so, they realize how important each of them are to solving this case. There's a lot going on and some twist and turns that make you go "what just happened?" I am excited to see where we go next with all the existing secrets and unresolved connections.
