About the author

Diane Foote is assistant dean at Dominican University’s Graduate School of Library and Information Science in River Forest, Illinois, and is currently serving as fiscal officer and a member of the board of directors for the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC). She was a member of the 2010 John Newbery Award Selection Committee and the 2011 and 2012 Coretta Scott King Book Award Juries, and cochaired the ALSC Preconference Planning Committee for the 2013 event that celebrated the 75th anniversary of the Caldecott Medal. She is a former executive director of ALSC and a former associate editor of Book Links magazine.

For more than eight decades, librarians from the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC) have intensely scrutinized the children's books published each year, selecting the winning and honor books for the Newbery and Caldecott Awards. In addition, the ALSC division of the ALA is committed to creating a nation of readers, starting with the youngest. ALSC supports all those providing library services to children, including youth librarians, teachers, families, literature experts, publishers, and child advocates.
