About this ebook

Time doesn’t always heal a broken heart. Sometimes the only thing it does is fill the darkness with more shadows, more pain.

Dylan Thomas has spent the past decade living in the shadows, mourning the loss of his wife, his best friend, his very reason for breathing. He long ago accepted that he would never feel again, that he was damned to a world without light, without hope. That was the day the bottle won, and he gave himself over to the darkness.

Until the one night that rocked his brittle, crumbling world on its axis. She told him what they shared was simply a distraction, a way to forget for a little while. It would’ve been, except the tiny glimpse of how it feels to live again, to feel again, gives him the strength he needs to pull himself up by his boot straps. But sobriety comes one day at a time, and three years later may be three years too late.

Distraction, Club Destiny’s final chapter, is a bit of a different journey than the rest of the series, but that is not a bad thing. Nicole Edwards’s note to her readers in the beginning of the book sets the tone of what to expect, and for me, I paid deeper attention so I could try and understand the issues as told by someone who has experienced depression first hand. Dylan and Sarah have known each other since high school, but they each ended up with different people to share their lives with, or so they thought, but forever was not to be. It took me a little bit to get into the story. It starts with laying out how Dylan and Sarah are affected by depression, at least you are given the beginnings of how it affects them, and then moves forward three years to what happens next. I love this series and for the most part, the books are more upbeat, but don’t let that make you hesitate to add this emotional and complex book to your reading list. There are the characters from previous books we have come to love, hot sex and club experiences, but there is more in this one. Not every relationship is perfect, nor starts out in a storybook way. You get a more real, gritty experience with two people who are aware of their problems, differences, desires, and hope, to overcome their problems one day at a time. I loved how Sarah realized that to move forward with her life, she had to change herself and that she had the courage to do just that. I appreciated how both Sarah and Dylan kept trying to work things out because they wanted something they didn’t have, even if they weren’t sure how to get it. I found it moving to see how their support system did what ever they could to help them overcome their challenges. Add to all that, a hot experience with Nate and Jake at the club, a hint of what is coming with Trent in a new series, and you have a book you should not miss. Nicole Edwards books are on my “must buy” list and this one is no exception.

What a fantastic way to end a series!! Dylan was the story I have been waiting for and Nicole Edwards has given me just what I wanted an in depth story that wasn't rushed, it was written brilliantly and with compassion. This book deals with what life is all about when you are battling depression, it covers all the issues that Dylan and Sarah faced when trying to move on with their life's. Sex is used as a distraction for both of them and what a distraction it is, Dylan needs more than just vanilla sex and Sarah is only just finding out what she really needs will she trust enough to let him show her just how good life and sex can be with the person you love...... This book was an emotional second chance romance, I laughed, I cried, but there was no way I was putting it down before I read the final line. Nicole Edwards has once again given us a fantastic read, Club Destiny may be finished but I'm looking forward to a spin off from this series.

5 Star Review Distraction (Club Destiny #8) by Nicole Edwards Distraction is Dylan and Sarah's story and was a book that was a long time in coming, not only for us the readers, but for Ms. Edwards, who has made no secret of the fact that she suffers from depression. This was one of my most anticipated reads for 2017 and I was not disappointed. Having read Distraction in virtually one read, I can understand how much this book could and would have impacted Ms. Edwards and the writing process. This book confronts issues of depression, alcoholism, guilt and fear, that many of us have had to deal with in real life from both sides of the fence and was at times difficult for me to read. Having said that, the subject matter was handled with integrity and although at times the rawness and the grittiness of the emotion and pain had me in tears, it was extremely well written; the layers that Ms. Edwards built throughout this book, were slowly peeled away, just like an onion, allowing love to blossom for Dylan and Sarah. This book got to me and touched me deeply on so many levels; it was an emotional and riveting read, a roller-coaster of a ride. Of course being a Nicole Edwards book the chemistry between Dylan and Sarah was off the charts and it most certainly led to some steamy scenes, throw in some BDSM and I was always going to be hooked. However for me, this book primarily was a true love story, of overcoming fears, of acceptance, not only of others but of ourselves and with hard work and determination how a person can triumph. Distraction is the final book in Nicole Edwards Club Destiny series, a series that holds a special place in my heart. Conviction, book one in the series, was my introduction to Nicole Edwards and her wonderful writing. Not only did I find books and characters that I fell in love with, but I found a whole group of sisters. We may not be blood related but we are sisters, in fact several off us from across three continents all got a Celtic sisterhood tattoo and I hold Nicole Edwards responsible for this, as we all met in her original Nicole Nation group. They are my inked sisters and I will always be grateful to Nicole Edwards for bringing us together. Well done Nicole Edwards, what a fitting conclusion to one of my favourite series.
