About this ebook

"Douglas' words conjure up images - like an artist brushing dabs of paint on the canvas of ones mind - all senses forced to come alive for a truly amazing experience. These are poems that will stir the heart and continue to resonate with each reading. "
Gary R. Indianapolis

"Muscular and lyrical, sensuous and deeply spiritual, the poetry of Terry Douglas probes the heart's longing for love and union with the beloved and the soul's quest for grace and oneness with the divine. Even those who don't read poetry will find much here that resonates in the heart and awakens the soul."
Evan A., Virginia Beach, VA

Does a Footstep Linger? explores the fire of love found at any age and in any season, and the stunning grief from love lost. There are poems in the collection that seek the Creators presence and spiritual nourishment in all aspects of lifes journey. An exuberance and energy unfold in the poems as we are encouraged to dance in celebration, as if no one is watching, leaving behind past regrets and no longer anxious of the future. Above all else, the poet probes the many mysteries and miracles some would say coincidences encountered daily in a long life of love.

For inspiration, the poet pauses to contemplate a sunrise on the ocean or a star-filled canopy overhead; he walks on an isolated beach in a blustery rain storm, or sits perched on a deck overlooking a canal as the water rushes into the bay, or in a coffee shop amidst the turmoil of another day.

About the author

Terrence Douglas was born, raised, and educated in The Bronx, New York. He attended Fordham University, earning a B.A. in English Literature and an M.A. in Russian Studies. Upon graduation, he entered the CIA and during his career was assigned to Warsaw, Delhi, Beirut, Berlin, and Kabul. In the private sector he managed a project in Saudi Arabia, and conducted business throughout Europe, Middle East, Central, South, and East Asia, and North Africa.

Douglas’ poetry reflects a determined search, fueled by international travel, for life’s meaning as reflected in the recurring themes of his poems. He unabashedly grapples with and explores the deepest dimensions of love, loss, deep spiritual commitment, and the explosion of insights and challenges that have gripped him in life. The sudden loss of his wife of 39 years which left him a single parent to raise a then 8 year old was a life-changing event. Now raising a teenager, connecting to five adult children and twelve grandchildren, daily solitary walks along the beach at dawn or at sunset, kayaking on the ocean, daily prayer, or even alone in a crowded room, the content of his poetry continues to evolve.

Does a Footstep Linger? is Douglas’ third volume of poetry and his most extensive. He now resides in Sandbridge, a small barrier island along the Atlantic Ocean, just south of Virginia Beach. His home sits perched between the Bay and the Ocean providing much inspiration for him to capture. In addition to writing poetry, he has written Praying Fingertips, a collection of daily meditations, Rules for Engaging Grief, a strategy for addressing grief, and two, soon-to-be published novels; one an international thriller (Ganymede)and the other explores greed and ambition in Saudi Arabia (House of Sand). Douglas is also an on-line professor, teaching terrorist-related courses for American Military University.
