Buddhism is a very universal intelligent belief system but I wouldn't base my eternal life on it so if you want a really good compilation of Buddhist scriptures then get this book,this bible of Buddhist scriptures was put together by a American Buddhist scholar if that is any help for you to decide if you want to buy it.

Donald Lopez is Professsor of Buddhist and Tibetan Studies in the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures, University of Michigan. He is the author of Buddhism (Penguin, 2000, r/i 2002) and Modern Buddhism (Penguin, 2002).
