One night, while on his way to New York he falls out of his berth in the sleeper, and the shock awakens him as Amidon, his existence as Brassfield becoming a complete blank. But his clothes, the papers found in his pockets, and the reception he meets when he reaches New York, all afford convincing evidence that he is Brassfield.
