मुझे इस महान् आत्मा के साथ बेहद करीब से काम करने का मौका मिला। लोगों के लिए भले वे मिसाइलमैन रहे हों; मेरे लिए वो हमेशा ‘स्माइलमैन’ ही रहेंगे। दुनिया ने उन्हें अंतरिक्ष विज्ञानी के तौर पर देखा; जिसने उपग्रहों को धरती के चारों ओर घूमते हुए देखा। मैंने उन्हें एक महान् आत्मा के तौर पर देखा; जिसने लोगों को सपने देखने का उपहार दिया—सपने और उनको सच करने का साहस प्रदान किया। दुनिया ने मात्र उनके कामों को देखा; जबकि मैं खुशकिस्मत रहा कि मुझे उनके भावनात्मक हिस्से का भी गवाह बनने का मौका मिला। वे एक वैज्ञानिक; संत; लेखक; शिक्षक; कवि और दार्शनिक थे; सब मिलाकर वे स्नेह और बुद्धिमत्ता का एक पुंज थे।
आइए; अब मैं आपको एक हैरतअंगेज सफर पर ले चलता हूँ—एक ऐसा सफर; जिस पर चलते हुए मैंने डॉ. कलाम से काफी कुछ सीखा।
