I first read this book in elementary school and loved it. I recently read it again and it's surprising to me how much depth there is that I had not picked up on when I first read it. While I would not necessarily recommend this book for an adult to pick up and read unless you are already interested in dragons and don't mind young adult fiction, I would greatly recommend you have your 9-14 year old read it.

If you have a little kid inside you who wants their own dragon, THIS is the book for you. With relatable characters, a unique take at magnificent beasts, and an amazingly detailed look at the everyday life of Austar IV, this book delivers everything you want. Action, suspense, intrigue, and a child's awkward attempts at romance, this sci-fi/fantasy is easily worth reread after reread!

Fantastic book that draws you in and doesn't let go. I found this treasure when I was a child. I became engrossed with the world that Jane Yolen painted in this book (the trials, pains, and triumphs) and I couldn't put this book down. I truly love this story!
