About this eBook

The pro skateboarder and Jackass star comes clean about fame, addiction, and the road to recovery in this candid memoir—forward by Tony Hawk.

At seven, Brandon was a skateboard prodigy. By the time he was fourteen, he was living the dream. Discovered by skate legends Bucky Lasek and Tony Hawk, he started touring the U.S. with the elite Powell-Peralta team. Brandon had it all. Then he got hooked on heroin.

Soon the up-and-coming star was living a down-and-out life in a garage, begging for change, and hustling to score his next fix. He stole from his family and friends. He pushed the fantasy that everything was okay, that he was going to rehab, getting help, and getting better. But it was all a lie.

This is the story of an addict—a dreamseller who stopped believing the lies he was selling and started believing in himself. With the help of his celebrity buddy Bam Margera of Jackass fame, Brandon joined the cast of MTV’s Viva La Bam and made an honest reach for sobriety. The road was hard, and he had some falls. But like any great skateboarder, Brandon Novak was always determined to get up again.

This edition includes 24 pages of photos and a new epilogue.

I loved this book. Parts of it made me cry knowing I had a brother that was a heroin addict knowing what he might have been doing to be able to get that fix. It had really opened my eyes on the torturous hell that addicts go through to become clean and the disappointment they face with their family. Im glad that Brandon faces the devil and never Ga e back I to the temptation.

This book was painful to get through because it brought so much insight about the nature of addiction. I read the entire thing in the span of 3 days that stirred so many emotions that I wasn't sure if I was happy or sad or angry for not being able to put it down. I learned a lot and I feel like Brandon Novak's honesty about his addiction brought me clarity about a couple of my loved ones. The two men closest to my heart. Ones dead now and one still struggles. I hope I can get him to read this.
