About this ebook

Shit happens but at the arctic camp, it’s happening too much and too often for Egan. The mess from the scientist camp has left a pall over the training camp. And still there is no sign of Teegan, Mountain’s brother. The surrounding tundra has been gridded and searched but so far, nothing… except another body…

Berry’s sister convinced her to try a new experience and apply for this training camp with her. Except none of her training prepared her for what lay ahead. Being in close quarters and cooped up due to the ugly weather, several people struggle to stay calm and in control. When her sister shows a side of her personality she’d never seen before, she’s wondering what she can do to fix this, but was it even fixable?

And if she’d been taken in, how many other team members had been as well? And did it have anything to do with the nightmare happening right under their noses. Egan and Berry need to find out, before they become the next victims…

Oh what a tangled web we weave when we first practice to deceive. Layers upon layers of deceit in this book generated mainly by one person. As the layers were peeled back it was hard for me to understand the level of hatred. Even when given a possible reason for some of it, it still floored me. This is book 3 of Shadow Recon. Each book is a person sent in by Mason to recon the disappearing people, the bodies that are piling and to help search for Mountains brother.

Talk about crazy central. This base in its frozen landscape is beyond whacked. There is so much going on in this place. So far we’ve had a killer nurse named Joy stealing drugs, and then a psycho scientist called Anna trying to kill all of them at their camp. Egan Crosok is sent in to help find the missing scientist and team. He immediately has a connection with Berry who is in training there alongside her twin sister Cherry. A murdered Russian team member involved in some illegal activities

This book is primarily about Egan and Berry but the ongoing story about the problems facing those on the Alaskan training center leaves plenty of room for the other characters in the previous books to make appearances. I am not thrilled with this book because it is filled with repetitive conversations among the characters, as though the author needed a larger word count or felt she needed to drill this information into her readers. Don't get me wrong. It's a good book, but I ended up skimming through several pages throughout the novel to avoid the unnecessary conversations. I will read her next book in the series because the intriguing storyline continues to draw me. 3 1/2 stars

About the author

Dale Mayer is a USA Today bestselling author who writes for the young, the old and those in-between. Some of her books are hot, some are sweet. Some will keep you up at night with a light on to keep the boogie man away and some you’ll want to cuddle close. She’s long given up on trying to fit a specific genre. Instead she honors the stories that come to her – and some of them are crazy, break all the rules and cross multiple genres! And that’s okay too. There is one guarantee with each book – it will be a great read – each and every time.
