About this ebook

This story is about the whitetail deer family. The story follows twin fawns, one is named Susie and the other one is named Billy, from the time they were a few weeks old, until they are about two or three years old. When they were fawns they like to play together. There are pictures that I took of the fawns from when they were small, and on up to when they grow up. There are also pictures of mother deer, father deer, and their deer friends. The book has information about the deer family. One part of the book tells why they are called White Tail deer. There are a few parts in the book that talks about the buck’s antlers, and how they change as they grow up. This book has two texts. One text tells the story of the deer family and the other text are intended for the adult who is reading to the child, or for an older child that is reading the book. The purpose is to provide more information into the life of a deer. They are not detailed, but I hope that they will be helpful in adding some additional insight about the deer family into the story telling.

About the author

I’m a wildlife photographer; most of my photos are of deer and birds. My husband, Jimmy and I live in Kentucky, in a log cabin out in the woods. The photos in this book were taken on our land. Jimmy helps me find the deer so that I can take their picture. I want to share with other people pictures of the deer family, to show how kind and loving they are to their loved ones. They hug their children (fawn) with their neck and face.

The doe gives them lots of kisses with her tongue. Over the years, I have had many people to tell me that I need to put out a book using my pictures. A good friend of ours, Bill Leffler saw my deer family pictures a while back; his response was, “these would make a wonderful children’s book.” Then he said that he would be glad to help me get started. When I started writing, I would look at a photo of a deer; study it, and think, what is this picture telling me? One picture at a time is how this book came to be.
