About the author

Elmer Mitchell Cranton is a physician who writes in the field of holistic medicine. Cranton was born September 17, 1932, in Haverhill, Massachusetts. Cranton received his M.D. from Harvard in 1964 and served in the U.S. Navy as flight surgeon, rotating intern, and general surgeon. His interests cover preventive medicine, parapsychology, holistic medicine, as well as family and geriatric medicine. Besides working in private practice, he was chief of staff at U.S. Public Health Service Indian Hospital in Oklahoma. Cranton was later medical director of Mount Rogers Clinic where he taught and served as advisor to volunteer rescue squads. In addition, Cranton has served as the president of many professional associations, including the Smyth County Medical Society, the American College of Advancement in Medicine, and the American Holistic Medical Association. He has also been editor-in-chief of the Journal of Holistic Medicine and the Journal of Advancement in Medicine. Cranton's writings include Trace Elements: Hair Analysis and Nutrition (co-written with Richard A. Passwater) in 1983 and Bypassing Bypass: The New Technique of Chelation Therapy (co-written with Arline Brecher) in 1984. Cranton and Brecher stated that chelation therapy, a non-surgical method for treating clogged arteries, is more effective than bypass surgery, less dangerous and less expensive. Resetting the Clock: 5 Anti-Aging Hormones That Improve and Extend Life was written with William Fryer and published in 1996.
