About the author
Else Ury (1877-1943) war eine jüdische und deutsche Kinderbuchautorin. Sie gilt als eine der bedeutendsten Kinderbuchautoren ihrer Zeit. Sie wurde als Tochter eines Berliner Tabakfabrikanten geboren. Else Ury besuchte eine Privatschule, dessen Unterrichtsschwerpunkt auf Fächern wie Handarbeiten, englische und französische Konversation lag. Nach ihrem Schulabschluss begann sie zu schreiben. Sie schrieb vor allem Bücher, die sich an Mädchen richteten und in denen sie größtenteils ein traditionell, bürgerliches Familien- und Frauenbild vertrat.
