In On Sondheim, renowned author Ethan Mordden takes the reader on a tour of Stephen Sondheim's work, arguing for the importance and appeal of the composer-lyricist in American theater and, even more, in American culture. Ratings and reviews

If this is your first introduction to Sondheim's work, it is OK. However it is more about his shows, so it should be titled "On Sondheim's Work" rather than "On Sondheim". There are better biographies and more insightful comments on SS's work elsewhere. The book jacket promises writing with a wicked sense of humor and wit, but I thought it was one of Mr. Mordan's blander efforts.

He lives in Manhattan.
