The President is dead. Now, the weight of the world falls on Jack Ryan’s shoulders in this extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller from Tom Clancy.

At the climax of Debt of Honor, the most devastating terrorist act in the history of the world left the President, the Joint Chiefs, the Supreme Court, and nearly all of Congress dead. Only Jack Ryan, confirmed Vice President mere minutes before, survived to take the reins of a shaken and leaderless country. Now he must rebuild a government, comfort a grieving nation, and become a true leader. Meanwhile, he is surrounded by enemies—both inside the White House and around the world—all of them plotting to destroy an untested President. And bring an already wounded country to its knees....

The book itself was pretty good, bar the annoying Kealty subplot which requires you to ignore a plot hole. (Why did Kealty not complain when JPR was being sworn in if Kealty was still VPOTUS? And why didn't van Damm point that out?) My only complaint is that the book is littered with typos. A lot of double capital Is instead of Hs, for example. It's rarely so bad as to be confusing, but it can get very jarring. This would have been a four star review, if not for the typos.

A fascinating web of plots and subplots. Jack Ryan finds himself by circumstances beyond his control the unwilling President of the United States. He has no party affiliation, and most of the government was killed by a terrorist. It's his job to rebuild the government. But as you know with Clancy, it's never that simple.

The detail that Tom uses, how he creates a world around you, its unbelievable. Im saddened knowing that i wont have any more books to read from his brilliant mind, but im keeping all my books for my future son to read.

About the author

A little more than thirty years ago Tom Clancy was a Maryland insurance broker with a passion for naval history. Years before, he had been an English major at Baltimore’s Loyola College and had always dreamed of writing a novel. His first effort, The Hunt for Red October—the first of the phenomenally successful Jack Ryan novels—sold briskly as a result of rave reviews, then catapulted onto the New York Times bestseller list after President Reagan pronounced it “the perfect yarn.” From that day forward, Clancy established himself as an undisputed master at blending exceptional realism and authenticity, intricate plotting, and razor-sharp suspense. He passed away in October 2013.
