Extinction War is the seventh book in the Extinction Cycle Series. One of the characters that the book focuses on is Master Sargent Joe Fitzpatrick, the new leader of Team Ghost. Team Ghost is a special forces team that has been fighting the devastating effects of a bio weapon created by the US Government by combining a super solder serum with the Ebola virus. As the weapon quickly spreads around the world it turns the victims into mindless cannibalistic monsters. This is the story of how MSG Fitz (Fitzpatrick) is trying to help the United States allies combat the virus. Then we also have Reed Beckham and Dr. Kate Lavato who thought that the war was over in the U.S. They were wrong as a mad man who is related to the original creator of the bio weapon tries to take over the United States by force. This book is another home-run by Nicholas Sansbury Smith. Throughout the series Nick has created awesome characters that we can all relate to. A story that, in my opinion, is not that far-fetched and he even backs up his story with some science. Extinction War keeps you on the edge of your seat, keeps you reading no matter how much you want to put the book down. This story easily earned a five stars from me. I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes The Tide series by Anthony J. Melchiorri or even likes a different take on the zombie apocalypse.

Of all the books in the Extinction Cycle series, this story was hands-down the most stressful for me to read in terms of its unrelenting suspense. Fierce battles are being waged. Humans are on the ragged edge in this fight for survival against the evolving Variants AND a power hungry human psychopath. From prologue to epilogue, Extinction War is a brilliantly crafted, 5 star page-turner. It is also not a book you want to start near the end of your day. Highly recommended!

I have read some incredibly good books. I have loved some incredibly good series of books. The whole Extinction series of books is so beyond “good”. But book 7 War, is the BEST. By far this book had my heart pounding NONSTOP. I couldn’t stop reading this. Literally every single second, if I could just read a few lines I did it. And even now at the end, I am flipping back to the beginning to read again. The things that make a series great are all captured in this. There is believability as well as suspension of disbelief. The characters truly are like family now. We’ve fought, bled, loved with them all. The terrors in this are both fantastical and even some real. By far and large the greatest book right up there with my very cherished series. A MUST read.
