About the author

Trip Elix is a more advanced computer programmer that started on computers when he was twelve years old. Before personal computers were invented Trip learned to make programs on punch cards and play games using dot matrix printers on mainframe computers.

By the time he entered high school, the Apple Company had created its first personal computer. Soon a host of companies got into the act which included; Commodore, Ohio Scientific and Tandy, IBM wouldn’t get into the marketplace for another few years.  He would spend every day after school teaching himself how to program in machine code.  This was before Microsoft made its first version of Dos.  Eventually the school acquired the basic and C programming languages and he was hooked.

One of his teachers and a doctor from the district recognized that there would be a potential need for developing a computer class. They created the school district's first computer instruction class. Trip was published on the cover as a co-author at the early age of fourteen. Trip states publicly when asked, “I didn’t understand the importance that authorship would have on my life. I had to wait two years to take the class simply because I wasn’t old enough to take it”.

Over time Trip has used and owned almost every version of every operating system used since the 1980’s. He has watched the computer industry rise and falter. Today,  unprotected devices appear that are common. The world unknowingly walks around with little computer devices that are personal bugging systems. Most people call them cell phones and tablets.

He has met others along the way that have attended meetings of hackers, crackers, phreaks and pirates. He attended Comdex in Las Vegas, with was the largest tradeshow in existence. Currently he makes the yearly trip back to Vegas for DEFCON.

Jumping ahead a few decades, he is still in the field. He is back to writing about the observations of a lifetime in the digital age.
