About this eBook

For Mage Alex Verus, everything is on the line in the tenth urban fantasy novel from the national bestselling author of Marked.

Once Alex Verus was a diviner trying to live quietly under the radar.  Now he's a member of the Light Council who's found success, friends...and love. But it's come with a price—the Council is investigating him, and if they find out the truth, he'll lose everything.

Meanwhile, Alex's old master, Richard Drakh, is waging a war against the Council, and he's preparing a move that will bring Alex and the life mage, Anne, under his control.  Caught between Richard and the Council, Alex's time is running out.  To protect those he cares for, Alex will have to become something different. Something darker...

Alex has always let his enemies take the first shot. He's been reactionary because that's who he is, a diviner. Forces are set in motion and they happen fast. If he wants to take control, he has to become something more. The time for simply reacting is over. I've read all the Alex Verus novels to date, and this one is by far the best yet. Benedict Jacka always surprises me but this novel, and the insight into Alex's paradigm shift, made my hairs stand up. There's very few books that make me sit bolt upright at 2am and cheer, but this was one of them. I read this in under a week at every single second of free time I had, and I intend to reread it at least twice more. If you've been keeping up with the Alex Verus novels, get ready for things to shift into high gear. Old scores are settled, characters lives are changed and perhaps some lost forever, and when you reach the end you'll know a new chapter in Alex's story has just begun.

A roller-coaster ride of a book, flips the series on its head, but it, trust me you won't regret it

This book and series is amazing, I started reading this when I finished the repairman Jack series and it is equal in every way.
