Meer oor hierdie e-boek

With decades of experience on the front lines of law, politics and women’s issues, nine-time author and nationally syndicated columnist Susan Estrich has seen it all. The polarization and upsets in America today rarely surprise her, often seeming like a never-ending bad reality show. But nevertheless, she is relentless in confronting those in power and demanding more from our leaders. In this collection of her 2019 columns, Estrich takes on large-scale issues such as the Mueller report, those under the Me Too microscope, the 2020 presidential race, and President Donald Trump’s impeachment, and articulates them in a personal, relatable manner. Even more impactful are her columns about life, in which she brings readers into her world with refreshing honesty and vulnerability.

Meer oor die skrywer

Is politics destroying the criminal justice system? What's the true nature of sexual harassment in the workplace? What is the future of feminism? Why can single-sex education be a good thing?

To learn the answers to questions like these, one need only look through some of the prolific writing of Susan Estrich. She has tackled legal matters, women's concerns, national politics and social issues with a high level of intelligent analysis and insight for decades.

Susan Estrich was the first female president of the Harvard Law Review, the first woman to run a national presidential campaign and the youngest woman tenured at Harvard Law School. She is well-known for her politics, her high-profile cases and her decades as a television talking head, most prominently as the house liberal on Fox News for 20 years. A nationally recognized authority on sexual assault, she helped alter the legal and cultural understanding of rape and coined the term “nuts and sluts defense.”

A bestselling author, Estrich's works include “Real Rape,” "Who Needs Feminism, Sex and Power?” "Getting Away With Murder: How Politics Is Destroying the Criminal Justice System" and "Making the Case for Yourself: A Diet Book for Smart Women."

Estrich first gained national prominence as national campaign manager for the Michael Dukakis presidential campaign in 1988, but she has been at the forefront of the academic and intellectual debate for decades. After graduating as a Phi Beta Kappa scholar with the highest honors from Wellesley College in 1974, Estrich went on to attend Harvard Law School, where she received her JD as magna cum laude in 1977.

After serving as a law clerk for Judge J. Skelly Wright on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia and Justice John Paul Stevens on the Supreme Court, Estrich had her first taste of politics as deputy national issues director with Ted Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1979.

In 1981, Estrich began teaching at Harvard Law School, and by 1986, she had received tenure. Her professorial duties did not limit her involvement in political campaigning, however, as she was named executive director for the Democratic National Platform Committee in 1984 and worked as a senior policy adviser to the Mondale-Ferraro presidential campaign. She would go on to accept a job with the Michael Dukakis campaign.

Estrich impacts millions through her weekly syndicated column, where she writes about politics, law, Hollywood and life. She is the mother of two children and two dogs. She lives in Los Angeles.
