Simón de Rojas Clemente y Rubio (Titaguas, 1777-Madrid, 1827) es un referente para la ciencia de la Ilustración española. Inicialmente encaminado a la profesión eclesiástica, se enriquece con el estudio del naturalismo, particularmente de la botánica (fue alumno de Cavanilles). Amplió sus estudios en París y Londres, y realizó un viaje por Andalucía que le permitió realizar su «Historia natural del Reino de Granada». Fue bibliotecario del Jardín Botánico de Madrid, y después de años de investigaciones y penurias, fue diputado en las Cortes durante el Trienio Liberal. Con la llegada de los Hijos de San Luis, hasta que lo reclamó el rey para acabar la historia de Granada, siendo también elegido director del Jardín Botánico de Madrid. De esta manera, Rojas Clemente se perfila como un sabio ilustrado sin fronteras.
