3.5* ... I used to read Harlequin Desire books all the time so I was looking forward to trying the books again. That being said, I enjoyed the book. Matt Harper and Julia Espinoza fell in love at a young age, and then Matt walked away. They were both lied to by Matt's parents. Matt believed Julia married another, and Julia believed Matt died while in Afghanistan. 10-yrs later Matt's father gets him to return home. A chance reunion that bring forth all of the details on how they were manipulated by Matt's parents. I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Viper Spaulding
This was a perfect star-crossed lovers romance! Matt and Julia were high-school sweethearts from opposite sides of their small community. Ripped apart by forces beyond their control, each spends the next ten years believing the other is lost to them for good. Until Matt's dad calls all his children home for a shocking announcement to the entire town. The love these two have was rock solid, but their reunion was continually obstructed by the many secrets and lies told over the years, making their eventual HEA all the more sweeter for the trouble. The secondary characters were superb, adding layers of humor and heartwarming wisdom. The complicated backstory was teased out patiently, and the surprise twist at the end was jaw-dropping even as it was satisfying. I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of this story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book through NetGalley.

Forbidden Lovers by Kimberley Troutte Julia Espinoza and Matt Harper fell in love as teenagers and his parents broke them up. Now he is back in the area after years away and they realize that they never stopped loving each other. I really enjoyed this book and the family interactions. It has a touch of mystery to it on another storyline going on so I now want to read Kimberley Troutte next book so I can see how it is solved. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good book.
