He headed straight for his cottage. The shortcut would save him a few kilometres of walking. After a long day at work, he didn’t want to walk any longer than he had to. It was much easier to head straight through the dark forest. He’d done it several times before, but it had felt different in the daylight. Sam shook his head at his stupid thoughts. There was nothing more sinister out here than a fox or a badger. Nothing larger. Not even bears lived around here.
A nearby howl made him freeze. ‘What the hell was that?’
It was probably a dog. Nothing more. Sam glanced around, trying to make out any animals in the darkness. The faint light from the moon showed him a dark shadow lurking behind the trees. A deer? It had to be.
Sam walked faster, feeling more nervous than before as he turned away from the howl’s direction. What idiot would let his dog run in the forest at this hour?
Then he heard it. Paws were hitting the ground as if something heavy approached him. Sam didn’t want to think why they made such a loud sound. They would normally try to move silently, wouldn’t they? No matter what it was, he didn’t want to hang around and find out.
Sam turned and ran. Running as fast as he could toward the safety of his cottage. But just as he spotted the faint light from his porch light, he heard something come after him. Something large jumped on Sam’s back and pushed him down. A deep growl against his ear made him shiver and try to move away. But instead, the animal ripped his clothes off the back of Sam’s shoulders and down to his ass. He kicked at his assailant, only to find several more moving toward them.
“Nice catch,” someone drawled.
Sam looked up and saw a large and naked man come toward them. The one holding him felt more like a naked human now.
