Blistering winds. Bitter cold. And the hope of a new future.

The Patriot Army was shaped and strengthened by the desperate circumstances of the Valley Forge winter. This is where Curzon the boy becomes Curzon the young man. In addition to the hardships of soldiering, he lives with the fear of discovery, for he is an escaped slave passing for free.

And then there is Isabel, who is also at Valley Forge—against her will. She and Curzon have to sort out the tangled threads of their friendship while figuring out what stands between the two of them and true freedom.

After reading Chains I couldn't wait to see what happened with Isabel and Curzon. Now I'm eagerly waiting to find out about their final adventure in Ashes.

I must say that Anderson has never disappointed me when it comes to her writing. This is no exception. I had my thoughts on how this book would be. I thought it would continue with the escape from the first one but in reality, it did not. This book had so many twist and turns that I lost count. I enjoy the action, the adventure, the romance, and the historical accuracy within the pages. This is a great American novel about how America was becoming America. A great read and a definite recommendation for anyone who enjoys history.
