I've downloaded a bunch of these old Readers. I think they're much better than the literature I find available in my kids classrooms. My son especially liked this Fourth Reader, as many of the stories feature child protagonists involved in outdoor adventures. They are written in an anachronistic style and use more advanced vocabulary than modern materials. The violence of the natural world is assumed. I think I read a review that indicated these are popular with American Traditionalists or Homeschoolers. I can understand why, but I think anyone's children would benefit from this series.
