About the author
Franz Werfel (1890-1945) war ein österreichischer Schriftsteller, der als Kind einer deutschböhmischen Familie in Prag geboren wurde. Aufgrund seines jüdischen Hintergrunds lebte er ab 1938 in verschiedenen Ländern im Exil und verbrachte seine letzten Jahre in Los Angeles. Er gilt als wichtiger Vertreter des lyrischen Expressionismus.
