This is an amazing book! It gives an account of the evils of slavery. Younger readers be warned, there are some graphic, cringe inducing descriptions of the cruelty to these slaves. The only reason I am rating this 4 stars, is that the original pages can be hard to make out, and when you switch to flowing text, it deletes chunks of text from the book. The book itself is great.

To capture one's heart is an even more difficult feat. This book does both. Though written years ago, Douglass' autobiography clearly explains the horrors of American slavery. The images in the book depict graphic secenes of bloodshed and cruelty and injustice towards African American slave. This is a looming reminder of the slave's toil. I never though I would say this, but I like reading.

This is one of the saddest and most provocative book you will every read. It is a must read for all later day slaves and freedom fighters alike. It is a brilliant narrative and should be in the school curriculum.
