Im Jahre 1929 verfasste Erich Kästner das weltweit bekannte Kinderbuch „Emil und die Detektive“. Die vorliegende Studie stellt dar, warum es sich bei diesem Werk immer noch um eine geeignete Lektüre für den Schulunterricht handelt. Zudem wird vorgestellt inwiefern eine Unterrichtseinheit zu diesem Buch gestaltet werden kann. Dabei werden unter anderem die Voraussetzungen und Schwierigkeiten analysiert sowie eine Stundentafel aufgestellt. Im Rahmen dessen wird Kästners unverkennbarer Sprachstil analysiert und seine unterschätzte Wirkung und Bedeutung als Lyriker, Dramatiker, Essayist und Romancier diskutiert.
