L’Universo si espande più velocemente del previsto: lo affermano la Nasa e l’Esa, che in base a recenti studi hanno stimato che l’espansione avviene a una velocità dal 5 al 9 per cento superiore alle precedenti stime. Il nuovo risultato è frutto delle misure di estrema precisione della distanza di 19 stelle (in altre galassie), ottenute grazie al telescopio spaziale Hubble. Il fisico Adam Riess, premio Nobel per la fisica nel 2011 e coordinatore del lavoro, sostiene che la velocità di espansione dell’Universo è di 73,2 chilometri al secondo per megaparsec. In base a questi calcoli, la distanza tra gli oggetti dell’Universo (l’intero insieme di Spazio e materia) raddoppierà nell’arco di 9,8 miliardi di anni, un dato che non corrisponde a quello di altre valutazioni.
