Die vorliegende Studie – Ergebnis der Pilotuntersuchung „Ganz oder Halb?“ der Universität Rostock – stellt neue Fragen zum Stand der Forschung im Bereich „Ganztagsschule“ und betrachtet die Entwicklungs- und Sozialisationsprozesse im Grundschulalter aus der Perspektive des Kindes. Kann die institutionelle Nachmittagsbetreuung (Ganztagsschule oder Hort) dauerhaft positive Einflüsse auf den Bildungserfolg der Kinder bewirken? Die Projektkinder profitierten von ihrem Hortbesuch nicht. Fazit der Studie: Sofern es nicht zu einer Neudefinition der Bildung am Nachmittag und einer Neuorganisation der Bildungsinstitutionen kommt, werden die „alten“ Institutionen die neuen Aufgaben nicht lösen können und somit den Bildungserfolg der Kinder vom Bildungsstatus der Familien nicht entkoppeln. Die Autorinnen schlagen vor, alle Forschungen interdisziplinär in einer Theorie der Ganztagsbildung zu bündeln.
