About the author

G. Edward White is the David and Mary Harrison Distinguished Professor of Law at the University of Virginia, where he teaches legal history, torts, and constitutional law.  He holds his law degree from Harvard, his Ph.D. and M.A. in history from Yale, and a B.A. from Amherst College.  He joined the Virginia law faculty in 1972 after a clerkship with Chief Justice Earl Warren of the Supreme Court of the United States and a year as visiting scholar at the American Bar Foundation.
