About this ebook

Suimei and two of his best friends find themselves mysteriously summoned to another world. There's a cute princess, magic galore, a Demon Lord that needs to be defeated, and a world that needs to be saved--the works! Too bad Suimei isn't interested. His friends are all too ready to play the parts of heroes, but Suimei just wants to get home. He has an advantage as a magician... but he's in for a rude awakening when he finds out what actually passes for magic in these parts.

Great start, hope it continues to impress. For a comparison, it's similar to The Eminence In Shadow with a few differences like the MC preferring to keep his abilities "in the closet", no harem (yet?), no ridiculous monologuing, and arguably less overpowered (though he's practically living in the Space Age compared to this world's Dark Ages magic). Not a lot of twists can be expected when the MC is OP and proud, but there are still a few small ones thanks to the other characters and his suspicious behavior throughout most of this first volume. If you don't like it after this first volume, however, i certainly wouldn't continue the series; it's not the kind of story that will become a sweeping phenomenon like Vinland Saga, Attack On Titan, Mushoku Tensei, etc.

underwhelming. needless exposition dumps. ZERO character traits outside the typical anime tropes. this book brings nothing to the table, the world building in this book is non existent. I just want my money and my time back - clearly I won't get either one. what drew me to buying this was that the MC said exactly what I thought of every time I've seen or read an isekai. "why would I care to help my kidnappers, risking my life for their conflict" paraphrased. aside from literally just that line, which was completely ignored, there was nothing else meaningful in this book after that point. I will avoid the rest of this series, as well as this author and publishers future works.

I'm pretty interested in the magic system and the world they've introduced, but the character interactions have me worried. For one thing, for the sake of the plot, a guy who is very directly shown to be functionally invisible is somehow seen by multiple people so that bad rumors can circulate about him. For another, I have literally seen direct love confessions that were more vague than what happens to one of the characters and the guy is still completely clueless. I guess clinging to you like an adopted puppy, hanging on your every word like they're a decree from god, and literally twirling in happiness right in front of you after being complimented for helping someone avoid a slightly awkward conversation isn't enough of a hint for this guy. The world is deep and future volumes might help me get immersed later, but the fact that the main character is so many leagues above literally everyone in the story coupled with his powerful desire to no longer be a part of this world doesn't inspire much hope that we will get to see much of it. Can I go follow his friends for a bit? Yeah, I definitely want to go follow his friends instead.
