About the author

Gavin McLean is a Senior Historian with the History Group of the Ministry for Culture and Heritage. A prolific author, his publications include the bestselling Frontier of Dreams (2005, co-edited with Bronwyn Dalley), Heartlands: New Zealanders Write About Where History Happened (2006, co-edited with Kynan Gentry), The Governors: New Zealand's Governors and Governors-General (2006), two widely acclaimed centennial publications for Reed Books, and The Penguin Book of New Zealanders at War (2009, co-edited with Ian McGibbon Kynan Gentry). He lives in Wellington.
