لحظه‌ای که روی تخت بیمارستان در پاریس، جیغ دختر اولم را شنیدم، به‌مادرم فکر کردم. به‌وقتی که او فرزند نخستش را به‌دنیا آورد که من بودم. فکر کردم لابد او هم همین صدای نحیف را شنیده بوده و روزی همین دختر تازه به‌دنیا آمده هم خواهد شنید. آن وقت بود که انگار ناگهان فهمیدم که هر زندگی سرآغاز یک داستان است.
با این همه، مادرم دور بود و مادربزرگ دیگر نبود که برای دخترکم از همان قصه‌های تلخ و شیرین خودشان از زندگی بگویند. زندگی در خارج از سرزمین مادری این سختی‌ها را دارد و با پیشرفت روزافزون فن‌آوری، نسل‌ها از هم دورتر می‌شوند. خودم هم به‌شکلی درگیر این فن‌آوری‌ها بودم. فکر کردم باید به‌طریقی این قصه‌های تلخ و شیرینِ تجربه‌های شخصی را که به‌من رسیده بود، به‌فرزندانم منتقل کنم. از خودم پرسیدم: فرزندانم از گذشته‌ی من چه خواهند دانست؟
بخشی از داستان‌ها، روایت‌هایی از گذشته‌ی نزدیک من هستند که از ایران شروع می‌شوند و در پیچاپیچ کوچه‌خاطرات ادامه می‌یابند. بخش دیگر در مورد آینده‌ی نزدیک است. داستان‌ها ریشه در تحقیقات علمی دارند و سخن از فن‌آوری‌هایی است که تحقق یافتنشان زیاد دور نیست.
The moment I had heard my daughter cry out for the first time on a hospital bed in Paris; I thought of my mother when she had given birth to me.
I thought she must have heard the same whimpers and one day this newborn baby girl will hear the same. This moment is when I realized that every life is the beginning of a new story.
My mother and grandmother were far away from us and they were unable to give my daughter their bittersweet stories of life. Living outside our homeland has certain difficulties, as technology advances and generations change, we’ve all become more distant from one another. Being involved in the development of these technologies, I wanted to avoid the oncoming scarcity of interaction and thought I should pass these tales of personal experiences on to my children. I asked myself what will my children know about my past?
First section of this book includes the stories from my past that start in Iran and continues in fantasy then another part is about the near future. The fictions are rooted in scientific research and the latest technology advancements that are not far from being a reality.
About the author
Dr. Anna Farzindar is a faculty member of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Her expertise is in Natural Language Processing and Artificial Intelligence. She received her Doctorate in Linguistics from Paris-Sorbonne University and her PhD in Computer Science from the University of Montreal. Recently, her short stories are published in book called “The gazelle in New York” which is a collection of sci-fic stories covering the future of humans and robots.
Also, she studied fine arts, painting, and sculpture at the School of Fine Arts of Versailles in France and the Ateliers Beaux-Arts de Paris and had several solo shows and collective exhibitions in Europe, Canada, and U.S. She received Femmessor-Montréal Awards in Canada for Succeeding with a balanced lifestyle, in the Innovative Technology because of her involvement in the arts. Her paintings have been published in a book titled One Thousand and One Nights. Her contemporary style revolved around on the place of women in modern society. Currently she is writing a book on “Ethics of AI” and produce a documentary about the impacts of technology on families across the globe.
آنا عاطفه فرزین‌در، دکترای خود را در رشته‌ی زبان‌شناسی از دانشگاه سوربن پاریس و دکترای علوم کامپیوتری را از دانشگاه مونترال کانادا اخذ کرده است. او هم‌اکنون استاد هوش مصنوعی و علوم کامپیوتر در دانشگاه کالیفرنیای جنوبی در لس‌آنجلس است.
او همچنین بیش از بیست سال در زمینه‌های هنری و ادبی فعالیت داشته است. چندین نمایشگاه نقاشی انفرادی و نمایشگاه جمعی در اروپا، کانادا و آمریکا برگزار کرده است. وی در دانشکده‌ی هنرهای زیبای ورسای فرانسه و آتلیه‌ی هنرهای زیبای پاریس تحصیل کرده است. کتاب هزارویک شب، مجموعه‌ی آثار نقاشی‌های اوست که با الهام از مینیاتورهای ایرانی، زیبایی ظاهری و حساسیت درونی، عقل و احساسات را بازآفرینی می‌کند. او با سبک منحصربه‌فرد معاصر، ایده‌های خود را در یک فضای نوشتاری و تصویریِ هماهنگ با تعهدات اجتماعی خود، با محوریت زنان و جایگاه آن‌ها در جامعه بیان می‌کند.
در کارنامه‌ی او بیش از سی مقاله‌ی علمی در زمینه‌ی پردازش زبان طبیعی و هوش مصنوعی وجود دارد. همچنین پنج کتاب به‌انگلیسی و فرانسه نوشته که به‌عنوان مرجع در دانشگاه‌های دنیا تدریس می‌شوند. آنا فرزین، داستان‌های کوتاهی در زمینه‌ی ادبیات و خاطره‌نویسی به فارسی، فرانسه و انگلیسی می‌نویسد.
