Although it would help to have something of a working knowledge of general and religious history of the subject matter within, a careful reading supplies a good introduction of the religions of China, Japan, Babylon, Assyria, Egypt, India, Persia, Greece, and Rome. Especially interesting are the chapters regarding Greek philosophy, Greek and Roman mystery cults, and Zoroastrianism and their close parallels to Christianity. Bibliography links to other works on these subjects. Very informative.
